Can I take Dextroamphetamine and Fluvoxamine together?

Taking these two medicines together can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome. It can also lead to higher levels of dextroamphetamine in your blood, which may cause increased heart rate, high blood pressure, jitteriness, and anxiety.

Why this happens

Fluvoxamine slows down the body's ability to break down dextroamphetamine (by blocking the CYP2D6 enzyme). Additionally, both drugs increase a chemical in the brain called serotonin; when levels get too high, it can cause dangerous side effects.

You should only take these together under close medical supervision. If your doctor prescribes both, watch for signs of serotonin syndrome, such as extreme sweating, shivering, fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness, or confusion. If you experience these, seek medical help immediately.
