Why this happens

Candesartan is a medication used to lower blood pressure. Montmorency cherries contain high levels of natural compounds called anthocyanins and polyphenols, which have been shown in some studies to have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of their own. When used together, these effects can add up (an additive effect), potentially lowering your blood pressure more than the medication alone.

It is usually fine to eat normal amounts of cherries as part of a balanced diet. However, if you are taking concentrated Montmorency cherry capsules or juice, you should monitor your blood pressure regularly. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, speak to your doctor, as your medication dose may need adjusting.
