Taking betahistine and quinine together may make the betahistine less effective at treating your symptoms. Additionally, both medications can occasionally cause side effects like an upset stomach or headache, which might be more noticeable if taken at the same time.

Why this happens
Betahistine works by mimicking a natural chemical called histamine to improve blood flow in the ear. Quinine has some antihistamine properties, which means it can block the effects of betahistine, essentially 'cancelling out' some of its benefits.
What you should do
Back to contentsIf you are taking betahistine for Meniere's disease or balance issues, be aware that quinine (often used for leg cramps) might stop it from working as well. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before combining them; they may suggest an alternative for leg cramps or monitor your balance symptoms more closely.
