Taking aspirin and misoprostol (the active ingredient in Cytotec, often measured in micrograms) together can increase the risk of irritation to your stomach lining and may cause digestive upset. However, in some medical cases, doctors actually prescribe them together because misoprostol can help protect the stomach from the damage aspirin might cause.

Why this happens
Aspirin is an NSAID that can irritate the stomach lining. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin that protects the stomach but can also cause side effects like stomach cramps and diarrhoea. When used together, the digestive side effects of both may be more noticeable.
What you should do

If you are taking aspirin for pain relief and notice stomach pain, indigestion, or severe diarrhoea while taking misoprostol, speak to your pharmacist or GP.
