Why this happens

Aspirin can compete with gabapentin for clearance by the kidneys. If the kidneys are busy processing aspirin, gabapentin may stay in the body longer than intended. Additionally, both drugs can have mild effects on the central nervous system, which can add together.

For most people, these two medicines can be taken together safely. However, you should be cautious if you are elderly or have kidney problems. Monitor yourself for increased sleepiness or dizziness. If you feel unusually drowsy, avoid driving or operating machinery and speak to your doctor.
