Can I take Amlodipine and Bupropion together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking amlodipine and bupropion together may cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. You might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. Additionally, bupropion can occasionally increase blood pressure in some people, which might make your amlodipine less effective at controlling your condition.

Why this happens

Amlodipine works by relaxing blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Bupropion can have unpredictable effects on the cardiovascular system; while it can sometimes raise blood pressure, it can also interact with the way your body processes other medications. There is also a small risk that bupropion could slightly increase the levels of amlodipine in your blood by interfering with certain liver enzymes (CYP3A4), though this effect is usually mild.

It is generally safe to take these together, but you should monitor your blood pressure more frequently when starting bupropion or changing your dose. To avoid dizziness, try to stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position. If you feel very dizzy, have a persistent headache, or notice your blood pressure readings are unusually high or low, contact your GP.
