Taking evening primrose oil with amitriptyline may increase the risk of having a seizure (a fit). This is particularly important for people who already have epilepsy or a history of seizures.

Why this happens
Amitriptyline is known to lower the 'seizure threshold', meaning it makes it slightly easier for a seizure to occur. Evening primrose oil contains chemicals that may also lower this threshold. When used together, these effects can add up, making a seizure more likely.
