Why this happens
Amitriptyline can affect how the body handles glucose (sugar) and may alter the body's sensitivity to insulin. This can conflict with the way Synjardy works to lower blood sugar. Additionally, amitriptyline can sometimes mask the warning signs of low blood sugar, such as a fast heartbeat.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently when starting or changing the dose of amitriptyline. This makes you much more likely to experience side effects such as extreme sleepiness, restlessness (feeling like you cannot sit still), uncontrollable body movements (tremors or twitching), and dizziness. There is also a small but serious risk of a heart rhythm problem called QT prolongation.
