Taking Zopiclone and OxyNorm (oxycodone) together can cause extreme sleepiness, severe breathing difficulties, and a state of unconsciousness (coma). In some cases, this combination can be fatal because both drugs tell your brain to slow down your breathing.

Why this happens
Both medicines are 'central nervous system depressants'. This means they both slow down brain activity. When used together, their effects add up, significantly increasing the risk of sedation and suppressed breathing.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should only take these two medicines together if they have been specifically prescribed by the same doctor who is aware you are taking both. Do not drive or operate machinery. If you feel unusually sleepy, dizzy, or find it difficult to breathe, seek emergency medical help immediately. It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol, as it will make these dangerous side effects much worse.
