Why this happens

Both 5-HTP and atorvastatin can independently affect muscle health. While the exact mechanism of this specific combination is not fully documented, combining supplements that affect serotonin levels with statins can sometimes increase the risk of muscle toxicity (myopathy).

You should speak to your doctor before taking 5-HTP if you are already prescribed atorvastatin. If you are taking both and notice any unexplained muscle pain, dark-coloured urine, or unusual tiredness, stop taking the 5-HTP and contact your doctor immediately.
